Why Qatari investment in Man United wouldn't be a bad thing — explained

The football community has been quaking since the Emir of Qatar's reported interest in purchasing Manchester United.

Not just United fans but Premier League supporters, for years, have ridiculed Manchester City for their oil money. And now, it appears we may receive backing from an uber-rich Middle Eastern source.

While several fans are dead against the move, here's a look at why it might not be the worst idea.

Rivals are getting richer

Chelsea got themselves a sugar daddy who has already spent over £600m since last summer. Newcastle are building a Champions League side with Saudis. Liverpool may be about to see the somewhat stingy FSG sell the club to investors from the Middle East.

It’s not all. Newly-promoted clubs outspend top-5 leagues; players ditch clubs playing in the Champions League to play for the most mediocre Premier League sides.

In short, the league is growing richer and there seems to be no stopping that. Give it a few years with the Glazers and United may not be able to financially compete even with sides that finish below the 6th place.

Rusty equipment no more

With Qatari funding, we could *finally* fix that damned leak in the Old Trafford roof. That's not all, more funding would mean better facilities so people like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard can never complain again.

Last but not least, we need to remodel Old Trafford to make it a new-age fortress that instils fear into the toughest opponents. With Erik ten Hag steering the ship and money going into things that need improvement, United could literally become a powerhouse again.

No limit on transfers...except for FFP rules

How many times in the past have we missed out on talented players because the Glazers either didn't want to spend or simply acted too late?

We STILL don't have a proper striker and few could argue that signing Ronaldo in 2021 wasn't the smartest idea.

Clearly, the Glazers don't have a plan in hand and it's not because they're short on money. It's simply that they don't care - not unless fans break into the stadium and cause mayhem.

The perils of Qatari investment would be the many Financial Fair Play violations that could come from overspending. But thankfully, we have City to learn from after their 100 breaches that are now being investigated.

Because, f*** the Glazers

Finally, we arrive at the most important point of all - it's time to kick the Glazers out of the club.

Fans have moaned and groaned about the parasitic owners for years but that could all change in a matter of months.

The Glazers have only ever taken money out of the club, never invested a penny towards its well-being.

Bids for United are also expected from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which would be the ideal scenario for most fans. But if things don't work out, it's high time the Glazers get out of the club.

For the record, investments from Middle Eastern countries doesn't automatically guarantee success or big trophies. These things take time but the advantage with United is we already have a well-oiled machine that just needs funds to go to the next level.

With Qatari backing - or any new investor who actually cares - United could become the biggest and baddest devils of English football once again.
