Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Robin van Persie said: "Success means trophies, of course. Erik ten Hag has got one already, which is great, and it takes a bit of pressure off. It gives him extra time, which he has earned.
"He is doing a great job. You can see the way Manchester United play is fun and is intense, but it is from his philosophy, his structure and I am pretty sure that if they give him time, which I hope they will give him a lot of time.
"Now that they have got the first one in. To win the league this year is a bit too much to ask at the moment. But the main thing for any top team is to be able to compete against anyone and this is what they have been proving this season."
Man United beat Newcastle 2–0 at Wembley last month to win the Carabao Cup, the club's first trophy since the 2017 Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils will be competing for a top-four finish in the Premier League over the next few months but the Europa League and FA Cup remain realistic targets.
