Speaking on talkSPORT radio, Tim Sherwood said: "Scott McTominay's two goals [for Scotland against Spain] were outstanding.
"For me, he really is underrated and undervalued. I don't think he has really settled into a position. Is he a six or an eight? But you have to let him play.
"A lot of his game is about energy and getting up and down the field. He's a box-to-box player. Is there a place for him at Manchester United?
"I think he needs to have a good look at his career now. He needs to play on a regular basis because he is that good."
McTominay has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag season, leading to reports about his potential exit in the summer window.
