'One of the best defenders': Man United slammed for making 'a mess' of Eric Bailly's career

Former Ivory Coast manager Patrick Beaumelle has criticised 

, Beaumelle explained: "It’s [Bailly's career] a mess. He remains and will remain one of the best defenders I have known." 

Addressing Bailly's failed loan spell at Marseille, Beaumelle added: "It’s a shame because a 100% Bailly could have helped the team to grab points to be second. 

"He has not always been 100 per cent, it is perhaps the fault of bad luck, when he loved Olympique Marseille and would have appreciated being part of this project." 

Bailly has given us moments of delight in the past but he's way too injury-prone to succeed consistently. And without consistency, one cannot hope to be a regular in the Premier League. 

He's expected to return to Old Trafford this summer as Marseille are not signing him permanently.

He was injured a lot at United. When he had a few run of games an was looking good he got injured.

Physically and technically he had it all to be a success, so did Tuanzebe but if you are rash while brittle as chalk you are going to have injuries. To say his career has been ruined you’d have to level the accusation at the medical department. Missed 8 matches in his first season, 26 in his second, 36 in his third but we still gave Bailly a 3 year extension because we are Maintainassester United and we’re run by bankers. Does anyone think City, Madrid or Chelsea would have been anywhere near as lenient?

From the times that Bailly had featured for ManU, I saw that he gave his all in every game he played. He is a tough tackler and reads the game better than Maguire. On the occasional forays up, he made some nice passes or even shot well. Its a pity that he was injured badly in the previous season. In the pre-season friendlies, he demonstrated his confidence. I do hope we keep him as a reliable and confident backup for the central defender role. This guy is committed if we can give him the opportunities to do his stuff.

I agreed with almost everything you said except when you said “many times rash challenges always put him in trouble” I think the aggressiveness is what we love about him and that’s what set him apart from the rest of the United defense he played it, and I don’t think that get him into many trouble as you said, cuz most of his absence is due to off the pitch injury, not red card suspension or been benched to avoid causing penalties.

Well fair enough but I watched him mistime tackles and got into scrapes going into tackles too late or too early and to me it was too often . He has everything needed though skills and reading the game he was decent at that as well . I’d still take him any day over McGuire ! I don’t think many read a game better than McGuire but his lack of speed has often gotten united into trouble because he can’t react to danger quick enough even when he sees it because of the pace of opposition players .

To blame united for him not reaching his full potential is an excuse to say the least . He had many chances at united sometimes he looked the part but many times rash challenges always put him in trouble then his injury record wasn’t the best . I think ole didn’t treat him the best but if you’re going out on loan at an even smaller club and can’t prove yourself then what can you expect from united ?

INJURY PRONE ...you cannot rely or build a defence aroúnd a player like this
