Rating the most influential 11 players in the PSG squad now

1. Kylian Mbappe

In the absence of the other Paris Saint-Germain stars, it was Kylian Mbappe who led the attack at the start of the season.

The transfer window is over and the 22-year-old will stay at the Parc des Princes for at least another year. We'll see how his situation will change as the season progresses, but he's definitely been the main man at the club in August.

2. Leo Messi

Leo Messi has only played 30 minutes for PSG so far, so his influence has more to do with the hype he created off the field rather than his on-the-field performances.

But even in his short cameo against Reims, we saw that his teammates were constantly looking to pass the ball to Messi. And his role is only going to improve with time.

3. Neymar

The Brazilian has also been unable to show too much this term as he joined the team at a later point. However, it is undeniable that Neymar adds flair to the Parisians' attack, something extra that only he and the player above him are able to bring to the team.

4. Marco Verratti

PSG's midfield with and without Marco Verratti leave a completely different impression on the watcher. It's the Italian who pulls all the strings, who controls the rhythm and the direction of the attacks.

Add to that Marco's impressive defensive qualities, and it becomes evident that the 28-year-old is of utmost importance to Mauricio Pochettino's game plan.

5. Marquinhos

The captain and the leader in defence, Marquinhos' role on the team can be compared to that of Verratti.

Just to highlight his importance, it's worth remembering that PSG conceded five goals in the three matches they played without Marquinhos at the start of the season. What about when the Brazilian returned? A clean sheet against Reims.

6. Keylor Navas

The experienced Keylor Navas doesn't look ready to lose his starting spot to Gianluigi Donnarumma, at least that's what his performances suggest. The Costa Rican can play a good match even when his defence lets him down, and that's a key quality for a goalkeeper.

7. Angel Di Maria

It's unclear what Angel Di Maria's role this season will be now that PSG have signed Messi. What's clear is that the 33-year-old doesn't need much playing time to show his worth.

Di Maria scored a goal just minutes after coming off the bench against Brest, and provided an assist in the 15th minute of the game against Reims. Even if he will be a bench player, the Argentine will definitely not lose his importance.

8. Achraf Hakimi

It took Achraf Hakimi almost no time to adapt at the new club. In the five matches he's played, the right-back registered a goal and two assists. If the Moroccan keeps up the good work, he'll make the starting spot his for years to come.

9. Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera didn't have too important of a role last season, but he's been very decent in the 2021/22 term so far. With a goal and two assists, the Spaniard definitely was one of the best performers at PSG in August.

10. Tilho Kehrer

Perhaps an unexpected hero, Tilho Kehrer has been more secure at the back than vice-captain Presnel Kimpembe. The German was expected to leave over the summer, but with his new-found confidence, Kehrer might have shot at becoming a regular starter now.

11. Julian Draxler

Julian Draxler is a weird case. It appears that Pochettino doesn't count on him as a starter, but thanks to his versatility, the German could prove to be a very useful asset. In the five matches he played this term, Draxler was used in three different positions, and this might be only the beginning.
