'That penalty needed to be awarded': Refereeing expert rules out any controversy surrounding tackle on Marcelo
Marca's refereeing expert Juan Andujar Oliver has defended the officials' decision to give Real Madrid a penalty.
"We could see through the VAR technology that Dani Garcia stepped on Marcelo and that penalty needed to be awarded," he said on Radio Marca.
It was during the 71st minute when Marcelo was brought down inside of Athletic Bilbao's penalty box. After seeing the Brazilian laying on the pitch, the VAR referees suggested to Jose Luis Gonzalez to check the call.
That's when Los Blancos were awarded a penalty kick and Sergio Ramos managed to convert it into the game's winning goal. That makes it 22 penalties in a row without missing for our captain!
By defeating Bilbao at the San Mames 1-0, Real Madrid have secured their seventh league win in a row, which also means that the Whites are on a winning run after the break.
Barcelona are now trailing by 7 points at least until Sunday evening when they play away at Villarreal. The kick-off is set at 22:00 CET.
