Luka Modric who joined the club from Spurs in 2012 revealed that Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo had nearly come to blows in 2013.
"I was surprised by Mourinho's reaction. We were winning 2-0 in the Copa del Rey," the Croat said in the autobiography as quoted by Corriere dello Sport.
"The two fought for a long time on the field. After returning to the locker room at half-time, I saw Ronaldo desperate, on the verge of tears.
"He said, 'I do my best and he continues to criticise me.'
"Mourinho came in and began to criticise the Portuguese for his responsibility during the game.
"They became so hot that only the intervention of the team-mates avoided a real fight between them."
That season became the last for Mourinho at Real Madrid even though he signed a new 4-year deal with the club in May.
A rift in relationship with the team leaders, clashes with journalists and Los Blancos' officials all contributed to his premature departure from the club.
