"We needed more experience and Raul is taking it year by year," Florentino Perez told Onda Cero (h/t Managing Madrid) when asked about Real Madrid's search for a new manager after Zinedine Zidane's resignation.

"One day it will happen — he has all the qualities you need to have to coach Real Madrid."

Florentino Perez decided to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as Madrid head coach after Zidane had stepped down.

Raul was reportedly among several candidates that were considered for the job. He will remain a Castilla manager for the upcoming season despite rumoured interest from Eintracht Frankfurt.
