'As if we're doomed for the season': fan lists 3 reasons why Madridistas shouldn't worry about Rangers loss

Real Madrid lost their first official pre-season friendly 2-1 to Rangers.

Los Blancos put up a rather poor display, and many fans were dismayed with the performance, but Reddit user and Madrid fan carloshacecosas has named three reasons why we shouldn't exaggerate when drawing conclusions from the game.

"Can't believe some "fans" are saying some of the stuff I'm reading. As if we're doomed for the whole season for a bad performance in a friendly," they write.

"1. It's our first "real" friendly this season. Yeah, I know we played two games on our training fields. That's clearly not the same.

"2. More than half of our squad (including most players of our starting 11) aren't even here.

"3. Rangers were playing as if their lives depended on this game, and we are playing a completely different game. They were also using their first team and were clearly more in form as they're starting their league next week.

"I imagine most of you weren't here when we lost 7-3 to Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly, and then we won the league. Or the countless times we've lost on pre-season friendlies and did more than alright during the actual season.

"The truth is it doesn't matter how we do on this kind of friendlies. They're just meant to put the players back in form and to try things before the season. It doesn't reflect at all how well we'll do during the season."

As mentioned above, the Rangers game was the first 'official' friendly of the pre-season for Madrid. They had already faced Fuenlabrada (3-1) and Rayo Vallecano (1-1) in training matches, but those were played behind closed doors.

Next, Carlo Ancelotti's men are set to face AC Milan in another friendly which will take place on August 8 at 6:30 pm CEST.
