Antonio Rudiger is said to be on Real Madrid's radars once again.
The German would be a great addition to the squad – but there is already the Militao-Alaba centre-back pairing that works very well.
Let's consider two options of how they could all play together.
Option 1: Courtois; Rudiger, Militao, Alaba; Carvajal/James, Modric, Kroos, Mendy; Benzema, Mbappe, Vinicius Jr.
The first one is 3-4-3. Rudiger would likely feel comfortable in this one since he usually plays in a three-at-the-back formation at Chelsea.
Switching to three centre-backs would provide the wing-backs with more freedom to run forward. This would particularly please Reece James, who's also a Chelsea man, if Real Madrid end up signing him this summer.
There is no Casemiro here but his absence would be made up with an extra centre-back who would run forward when needed (Rudiger, Militao and Alaba are all suited to that role).
Option 2: Courtois; Carvajal, Rudiger, Militao, Alaba; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Vinicius Jr, Mbappe, Benzema.
Ferland Mendy isn't really a star performer under Carlo Ancelotti, let alone his injury proneness.
David Alaba could be finally switched to left-back where he often played with Austria and Bayern Munich. Rudiger-Militao would be the new centre-back pairing then.
🤔 Thoughts, Madridistas?
