'Leaving Real Madrid with 10 men is a big deal': Atletico Madrid denounce refereeing in Copa del Rey derby

"When the score was 0-1 [Atletico were ahead], in the 71st minute, leaving Real Madrid with 10 men turned out to be a big deal. Of course – they played a big match at their own stadium," Atletico Madrid have said in an official statement.

"Real Madrid are a club with a very strong environment, with many interests around it. They create such pressure that it's normal to affect the people who make decisions. They [referees] are aware of what awaits them if they make a mistake," they added.

By referring to the episode that took place in the 71st minute, Atletico mean Dani Ceballos' foul that was not 'rewarded' with the second yellow card.

Later in the extra time, Atletico Madrid were down to 10 men and Real Madrid grabbed the win.
