David Alaba undergoes successful surgery - possible return date revealed

David Alaba has successfully undergone surgery on his knee after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in the La Liga match against Villarreal on Sunday.

The defender was operated on by renowned knee surgeon Dr Christian Fink in Innsbruck, Austria, on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after sustaining the injury.

Alaba decided to have the surgery as soon as possible, with the support of Real Madrid and medical experts, to speed up his recovery process.

Alaba is expected to be sidelined for about nine months so he will miss the rest of the season and the Euro 2024 tournament with Austria next summer.

He will begin his rehabilitation program in the coming days and work hard to return to the pitch as soon as possible.

Like teammates Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao, Alaba will likely play his first official game back at the start of next season.
