Real Madrid's chief scout begins search for new centre-back (reliability: 5 stars)

Real Madrid's chief scout, Juni Calafat, has begun searching for a new centre-back, reports Marca's Jose Felix Diaz.

The idea is to sign a talented prospect who could end up signing a long-term deal with Real Madrid.

The club were initially against signing a defender in January even despite David Alaba's season-ending injury. However, Nacho's second suspension of the season has forced Real Madrid to act in the transfer market.

The Whites don't consider re-signing Raphael Varane or bringing Rafa Marin back from his Alaves loan. The club will most likely get a player who has never played for Real Madrid before.

Following Nacho's suspension, Carlo Ancelotti has Antonio Rudiger as his only available centre-back at the moment.
