Real Madrid's biggest weakness in big win against Atleti shown in lineup

Real Madrid battled hard to beat Atletico Madrid 5-3 after extra time and qualify for the Supercopa final on Wednesday. But that scoreline tells you it wasn't all smooth sailing on the night for Carlo Ancelotti's men.

Los Blancos began the game unconvincingly when Hermoso was left unmarked to score the easiest of headers after just five minutes. Kepa could've come out for a high claim or at least made a dive but he was stuck in no man's land as he watched the ball go in.

From that point onwards Real Madrid's defence remained suspect. Atleti could've scored a second goal moments later, but Alvaro Morata's shot went wide of the post.

Despite scoring twice to equalize and take the lead in the space of 20 minutes, Real Madrid's defence would show porosity once again. Nacho miscommunicated with Rudiger as Griezmann exploited the space to score and bring the score to 2-2.

Too much space for Griezmann to shoot

The third goal conceded by Real Madrid was all Kepa's doing. He got his bearings all wrong and was clumsy enough to bundle the ball into his own net using his left foot.

Real Madrid would force extra-time through a brilliant Carvajal effort and eventually win the game thanks to Joselu and Brahim. But our defensive weakness was glaring against Atletico.

Los Blancos were opened up from centre-back and their goalkeeper wasn't much help.

Here's a lineup that highlights Real's weak points despite their big win.
