'Last one for Kroos, Modric, Ronaldo': Mourinho on why he watches Euro 2024 with 'sadness'

“To watch Euros with sadness? Because I believe Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, it is the last Euro for them. And I say sadness because players like them we don’t see many times,” Jose Mourinho said of this year's Euros, as quoted by Yahoo.

“In the case of Cristiano and Modric, football was nice to them and gave them the pride of being considered the best in the world in some moments.

“I think Toni Kroos didn’t get enough credit for the player he is. For me, he is absolutely an amazing player.”

It's definitely the last Euros for Kroos, who is retiring after the end of the tournament. Ronaldo and Modric, 39 and 38, respectively, are not planning to retire any time soon but are unlikely to feature at the next Euros in 2028.

However, we still might see Cristiano and Luka at the 2026 World Cup.
