Aged 25, Andriy Lunin finally broke through at Real Madrid: he took advantage of Thibaut Courtois' injury, beat Kepa to the regular starting spot, and delivered big performances in the Champions League and alerted several European clubs to his contract situation. He has made tremendous progress, especially when it comes to footwork and collecting crosses, as noted by Carlo Ancelotti: “He has improved a lot. Very, very good. He has a lot of quality,” said the veteran Real manager. This step forward also allowed Lunin to become the national team’s No 1 in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, and the final tournament is taking place at a critical moment for his career. He will have to decide whether to stay at Real Madrid and risk being sidelined by the returning Courtois or try his hand at another top club. A successful performance at the Euros, on top of an already strong season, can enhance his profile and provide even more options for the future.
