Last year, Jamal Musiala made Bayern champions with his late winner in Cologne on the final day. This season, though, the youngster has taken a step backwards by his high standards. “The potential is outstanding, but the effectiveness this season was nowhere near what we were used to,” said his coach, Thomas Tuchel, in March. His serpentine movements on the ball are hard to stop and he can make something dangerous out of nothing, but he still has to learn when to pass the ball. Born in Stuttgart, Musiala was seven years old when his family moved to England, and spent eight years in Chelsea’s academy. He played for England up to Under-21 level before switching allegiance to Germany, and is eager to shake off his “Bambi” nickname by playing a leading role at Bayern and for his national team. “I'm no longer a Bambi. I have more responsibility in both teams,” he recently told Sport Bild.
