These are good times for the Munich-born right back who opted to represent the country of his parents rather than Germany, although he had been part of the Under-19 setup there. Josip Stanisic has gone from being a backup player at Bayern to eventually becoming a regular on loan at the new Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and is also pressing to overtake Josip Juranovic’s place in the national team, as a slightly more defensive option. Interestingly, he was given a full international debut by Zlatko Dalic in October 2021, only three months after signing a professional contract with Bayern, but also months before he first appeared for Croatia Under-21s.
