Razvan Marin came through Gheorghe Hagi's academy, like many in the Romania squad. He then moved to Standard Liège in Belgium, impressing with solid outings. Erik Ten Hag’s Ajax signed him in 2019, but he struggled to make an impact in Amsterdam. Marin was limited to just 10 league matches during his debut season, starting only five times. Christoph Daum gave Marin his international debut in 2016 when he was just 20 years old. "Marin was one of the best players in the Romanian league, he showed personality and quality. I do not doubt what he can achieve in football," Daum said when asked about starting the youngster during the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup. Marin's debut in the national team came just over a decade after his dad, Petre, also a former international player, was enjoying Champions League action for Steaua Bucharest. Marin Jr was a ballboy as Steaua hosted David Beckham, Ronaldo and Real's Galácticos in 2006.
