Dragan Stojkovic has clearly changed his tune. For a long time he has said that the Serbian league is too weak and bemoaned the lack of quality. Yet when he announced his preliminary squad for Euro 2024 no fewer than eight players were plying their trade in the domestic top flight. There was a feeling Srdjan Mijailovic might be cut for the final 26 but he survived, Stojkovic deciding against several players from the Russian league (such as Strahinja Eraković) and Mijailovic’s versatility most likely played a part too. He can cover multiple positions with defensive midfielder being his best. During this season's Champions League group stage, he also played as a right-back against Manchester City and RB Leipzig. "I am delighted to have such a player on my team," said his former coach at Crvena Zvezda, Barak Bahar. "From the first training session, I saw he was a versatile player." In Germany, he could be the team's utility man.
