Diario AS believe that Real Madrid have now highly-rated wing-back Junior Firpo as a ‘key transfer objective’ for next summer.
The 22-year-old Dominican-born defender made his first-team debut at Los Verdiblancos earlier this year but has now established himself as a regular starter, already making 33 appearances for Betis.
According to the latest reports, Real Madrid are seeking to find a long-term replacement for Marcelo by activating Junior’s €50m release clause with Real Betis.
The 22-year-old agreed a long-term contract extension with Los Verdiblancos until June 2023 in August, after a string of impressive displays.
The player himself has recently admitted his dad has always been an ardent Madridista fan:
"I'm drawn more to Madrid, my Dad's a Madridista. When I first came to Spain, Madrid were the only team we watched on TV at home. So I've always felt stronger about Real Madrid", he explained
Firpo has been instrumental in scoring three goals in his last six La Liga appearances – against Celta Vigo, Barcelona and Real Sociedad.
