How Real Madrid might line up for El Clasico based on Liverpool win

9 days ago, Alex Baguzin

  • Los Blancos overcame Reds 3-1 at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.
  • Zidane reverted to his favoured 4-3-3 for the game.
  • So we mulled over what he might do for the upcoming Barca clash.

Real Madrid's 3-1 triumph over Liverpool saw Los Blancos line up in a 4-3-3 shape. Both Vinicius and Asensio were given the nod on the wings: Zizou didn't have to choose which in-form attacker deserved a start more.

Both players rewarded the trust put into them by scoring all 3 goals. While some might say Asensio got lucky to be in the XI because of Madrid's injury crisis at centre-back means Los Blancos can no longer afford to play 3 at the back, maybe Zidane's thinking was the other way around.

The Frenchman could have gone for the in-form player while returning to the shape and formation all players are most comfortable with. If this was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming El Clasico, Zizou's side passed it with flying colours.

As such we can see only 3 players pushing for a place in the XI ahead of those who started vs Klopp's men: Carvajal, Hazard and Rodrygo. The latter looks the most likely: Carvajal is unlikely to get thrown back into the XI after just one game in 3 months, while Vinicius simply doesn't deserve the drop after his masterclass.

However, given Asensio's recent goalscoring streak, we are pretty sure he'll get the nod again. Sorry, Rodrygo.

Predicted lineup: Courtois, Vazquez, Nacho, Militao, Mendy, Casemiro, Modric, Kroos, Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius

Think so too, mate. Rodrygo has to prove he can offer more than Asensio right now. It's on him

Strong line up but it’s crucial to make sure players aren’t too tired for next leg in order to prevent injuries.
