Diario AS: Real Madrid consider rising Modric's salary to prevent him from leaving
- The club in no way expected Luka Modric to push for the exit
- Neither Julen Lopetegui nor Florentino Perez will sanction the move
- Real Madrid might increase the midfielder's salary to convince him to stay
According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are thinking about increasing Modric's salary, which would put him on par with Sergio Ramos and just below Gareth Bale to ensure he doesn't leave next summer, in 2020 when he is 34.
Modric's agent Vlado Lemic has tight connections with Inter Milan, which makes the situation all the more concerning for Real Madrid.
The 32-year-old midfielder has a contract with Los Blancos until summer 2021 and earns 9m euros per season.
Florentino Perez has shut the door on Modric's exit yesterday: "Luka is not leaving Real Madrid. He is not leaving unless someone pays the €750 million of his release clause and not a euro less."
According to the Italian paper La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Luka Modric is set to meet Florentino Perez this week and will try to convince him to let him join Inter Milan this summer. However, AS refutes this report, saying that both Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez - the sporting director - are in the United States with the rest of team until the next Wednesday, while Modric is due back to training on Sunday. So the alleged meeting will have to wait until the next week.
