Marca: Real Madrid keep their young talent despite an offer from Premier League
- Bournemouth wanted to sign Sergio Lopez
- They bid €9m for the 19-year-old right-back
- Real Madrid rejected the offer and renewed Lopez's contract
According to Marca, Premier League newcomers Bournemouth have offered 9 million euros for Real Madrid youngster Sergio Lopez. The Englishmen are willing to pay five million euros as a single payment and add four more as variables.
Real Madrid decided to keep the 19-year-old right-back and allegedly renewed his contract until 2022. There has been no official confirmation of the new deal but everything points to it as Lopez has been used by Julen Lopetegui during the summer US tour: the right-back replaced Alvaro Odriozola in the 62nd minute of the game against Manchester United.
Sergio plays for Los Blancos since 2016 after moving from UD Santa Marta's academy. Real Madrid's official website describes Lopez as 'a fast-paced winger who brings real work ethic to the team. He is balanced in terms of defence and attacking duties. As well as being strong at recovering the ball, he is deadly in attack. Fast-paced, technical and has a great shooting capacity'.
It seems likely that Lopez could be used in a more offensive role as the right-back position is completely covered by Dani Carvajal and the recent €40m signing Alvaro Odriozola. Besides, Carvajal's last season's backup Achraf Hakimi has been loaned to Borussia Dortmund for the next two years.
