Chelsea boss Sarri: We had no chance of keeping Courtois
- Speaking on the press-conference prior to the Blues' Premier League opening game vs Huddersfield, Maurizio Sarri assessed the transfers of Thibaut Courtois and Mateo Kovacic, giving his thoughts on Eden Hazard's future, too
"I am very happy. Courtois' situation was clear, he wanted to go to Madrid. But we bought a young goalkeeper, one of the most important... in Europe. I am really happy. And to Kovacic, because he has the characteristics for us. The squad is complete", said the manager.
The Italian also voiced his thoughts on Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mateo Kovacic, who joined the Blues on loan from Madrid:
"He [Arrizabalaga] is very young, 23. I hope he can improve very fast but for the moment he is not Courtois, of course. Kovacic is very technical and [can] play between the lines of the opponent. For us, that could be very important.", he added.
The Chelsea boss revealed the current situation around Real Madrid-linked Eden Hazard as well:
"Hazard is with us. I have spoken with him three or four times for everything, and he never said something about the market. So I think he is very happy to stay here."
