Rumours: Odegaard could move to Championship
- The 19-year-old could join English second tier on loan
- The Norwegian already spent last year on loan in Holland
Real Madrid's infamous 'golden boy' is at the crossroads once again. After 18-month-long loan at Heerenveen in Holland, he is now expected to move to England as several Championship sides have expressed interest in the talented striker.
Daily Mirror have reported on Sunday morning that Aston Villa are the ones to 'invest heavily in the loan market this month' while Derby County, lead by Chelsea great Frank Lampard, could also be an interesting option.
Martin Odegaard's story is rather a sad one. The Norway international was considered to be the 'golden boy', the future Messi and Ronaldo combined. He joined Real Madrid for £3m aged just 16 and failed to progress the way everyone hoped he would.
Los Blancos want the talented striker to continue his development, however, they are not able to provide Odegaard with the necessary amount of playing time. That's why they sent the Norway international to Holland on loan for the previous season.
During his time at Heerenveen, he finally managed to become a regular and eventually helped his side to finish eighth in the Eredivisie. However, he suffered from a broken metatarsal some weeks before the end of the 2017/2018 season. As a result, Odegaard returned to Madrid and could now move to England.
Last season at Heerenveen, Odegaard managed to score two goals and assisted two others. Look at his complete performance data via Transfermarkt.
