Reguilon's path from Logrones to Real Madrid
- Sergio Reguilon is yet another youngster in Santiago Solari's Real Madrid
- The 20-year-old managed to replace Marcelo in the starting XI vs Sevilla and that decision proved to be the right one
- It's hard to believe he was on loan at Logrones just two years ago, a club from Segunda B
- The player was a regular in Solari's Castilla side and now is starting to become a key figure in the main team
Who would have thought the mighty Marcelo would be benched in the favour of a 20-year-old? We don't think that even Sergio Reguilon seriously considered that. But still, another one of Santiago Solari's Castilla players is slowly becoming a regular in the big league. Sergio now has four back-to-back appearances in the starting XI and it doesn't look like he's about to ease up.
AS: Marcelo is now beginning to consider the possibility of leaving Real Madrid in light of his current situation being behind Reguilon at LB. pic.twitter.com/u6mUtjC59q— RMadridHome (@RMadridHome_) January 21, 2019
It's hard to believe that he was a loanee at Logrones just two years ago. This club plays in Secunda Division B and is hardly an adequate comparison to the one that resides at Santiago Bernabeu. Sergio is one of the few examples in modern football of a player spending 2 loan terms elsewhere and returning to make an impact.
On Saturday he started against Sevilla replacing Marcelo and giving a spectacular performance. The manager seems to trust the player and if everything goes smoothly, Reguilon will soon become a key player at Madrid.
Real Madrid is switched on for the first time this season. Vinicius and Reguilon playing with electricity in their system. Everybody is defending as a unit. This is my Real Madrid!#HalaMadrid #LaLiga #BetisRealMadrid— Graham (@Lankygray) January 13, 2019
Sergio was one of those kids who waited outside Bernabeu to meet his heroes with 50 kilometres separating his home in Collabo Villalba and the famous stadium.
And now gets to play with them in one of the best football teams in the whole world. Unbelievable!
Do you think he has what it takes to replace Marcelo permanently?
