Zidane's arrival to Bernabeu sets out a warning to Courtois
- Thibaut Courtois is one of the Madrid players who are in dire need of improvement.
- The goalkeeper received a ton of criticism following his failure to protect the goal on multiple occasions with many fans praying for Keylor Navas being back between the posts.
- Santiago Solari preferred the Belgian for his own reasons but with Zidane's return, things can drastically change for Thibaut.
Keylor Navas has been a trusted keeper of Zinedine Zidane's previous three-year spell at Real Madrid and with the Frenchman assuming the position of the manager once again in order to fix the mess left by Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, the Costa Rican can once again become the first-choice shot-stopper.
This creates a myriad of problems for Thibaut Courtois, who became Santiago Solari's preferred option which became a huge disappointment for many Madrid supporters. Keylor picked up an injury in 2018 and had to take some time off which came as an opportunity for Courtois, who joined the club in the summer of the same year.
Now, after losing in every major competition this season, with most of the blame placed on Courtois when it comes to conceding goals, the Belgian is in danger of Zidane choosing Keylor as his first option. With the exception of Copa del Rey, Courtois's lacklustre performance during the last few months can determine his future in a very negative way.
During every Champions League win with Zidane as manager, Navas was the only keeper for the Frenchman. Zinedine trusts the Costa Rican and knows him. So it wouldn't be surprising to see Zizou restoring some things to the way they were before.
Do you want Keylor to be the permanent first keeper?
