Mourinho remembers 'conflict' with Benzema: 'I just wanted to help the player'
- Mourinho had clashes with both strikers at Manchester United and Real Madrid.
- With Benzema, Jose fast got a positive reaction.
- With Martial, the Special One only hopes the Frenchman fulfils his potential.
Jose Mourinho watches the problems unfold again at Manchester United. Players let him down and the club refused to side with the head coach which resulted in a sack. The Portuguese seemed to take a new swipe at Paul Pogba as he was asked about striker Anthony Martial, too. He managed to squeeze one of our players in his tirades as well.
Mourinho was told to compare Martial's situation with that of Karim Benzema at Real Madrid when Jose was here. Both had a conflict with their coach but only one managed to turn things around.
Mourinho told L'Equipe: "With Karim, it was not a conflict, I just wanted to help the player – an incredibly talented player – change his mindset, help him reach his maximum. To become a killer, a determined striker. I really enjoyed working with Karim.
"He [Martial] is a boy with a different personality. The thing I can say is that I hope he will reach a level commensurate with his real potential."
Maybe Mourinho is a great manager after all?
