Gazzetta dello Sport: Napoli out of race for James, Atletico frontrunners now
- Zidane seemingly doesn't want the Colombian at the Bernabeu in the 2019/20.
- The Parthenopeans have failed to meet €40m asking price for the 28-year-old.
- The Rojiblancos refuse to give on the midfielder.
According to Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are no longer in the race for James Rodriguez. The Parthenopeans manager Carlo Ancelotti wanted to land the Colombian at the San Paolo this summer. The Serie A giants, however, were scared off by a €40m asking price for the 28-year-old.
Zinedine Zidane refuses to rule out either the player's stay at the Bernabeu for the 2019/20 campaign or a move away from the club until September 2 - transfer window deadline in Europe. As things stand now, Atletico Madrid remain the only interested side in James and are set to make a 'shock move' for the out-of-favour midfielder.
Should the alleged move happen, the Colombian will be the second Blancos player who swapped Real for Atletico this term. Marcos Llorente moved to the Wanda Metropolitano in a €30m transfer in July.
James spent the last two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have opted against signing the 28-year-old on a permanent basis for €42m earlier this summer.
