Revealed: Why Valencia have lost money because of Barcelona's Champions League exit
Not only have the Catalans themselves faced the financial consequences because of their Champions League exit, but also their fellow LaLiga side Valencia have now lost up to €10 million.
• That's because of Andre Gomes' transfer to Barcelona.
The deal stipulated that Barcelona had to pay a fixed fee of €35m for the Portuguese, as well as €20m in add-ons which are based on their Champions League performance.
It means Valencia receive €500,000 if Barcelona reach the quarter-finals, plus €1m if they reach the semi-finals, an additional €1m if they reach the semi-finals, and a further €3m if they win the tournament.
The Catalans, however, have failed to reach the semi-finals for both seasons Andre Gomes has been with the club. That means Valencia have earned just €1m out of possible €11m.
