- The Croatian midfielder explains his earlier claim that Cristiano will stay at the Bernabeu, saying that it was his wish at the time
- Modric also reveals his expectations about the World Cup final
"I said that Cristiano would stay because that's what I wanted, but I didn't know anything," revealed Modric after the World Cup semi-final victory over England.
"Cristiano is unique and it's a pity that he left. I wish him the best, but not so much when he plays against Real Madrid. I thank him for everything he did at Real Madrid."

On Croatia reaching the World Cup final he said: "For a country like Croatia, it's something historic to be in the final of a World Cup. We expect a really tough team in the final, I think they're more difficult than England. I think they're the toughest competition for us in the World Cup."
Modric isn't interested in individual awards like Ballon d'Or though: "For me, it's not important, I already said that. The only wish I have is to lift the cup for Croatia."
