Real Madrid vs Espanyol: match preview
Following wins in Vitoria and Dortmund, the Whites will be looking to take three points ahead of the international break.
Real Madrid and Espanyol close out the seventh round of LaLiga games tonight at the Santiago Bernabéu (8:45pm CEST). It will be the Whites' third game in the last nine days, following their win in Vitoria and Tuesday night's exhibition in Dortmund, and they'll be looking to notch a third consecutive win before heading into the international break.
“If we're to beat Espanyol, we'll have to manage the game well and do a great job from the start", said Zidane at the press conference. The madridista coach will have to overcome this challenge without Marcelo, Kovacic, Theo, Benzema and Carvajal.
Espanyol come to the Santiago Bernabéu at a fantastic time of the season from their point of view. After picking up just a single point in the first three LaLiga games, the Catalan side have gone unbeaten in the last three, managing a draw and two wins. The last, which was a 4-1 thrashing of Deportivo exactly one week ago, will have no doubt done wonders for their confidence.
“The team has improved and grown from a mental point of view. I hope we can pick up a positive result because that'll be great for morale”, said Víctor Sánchez. His teammates, Gerard Moreno and Leo Baptistao, with three and two goals respectively, have netted five of Espanyol's seven LaLiga goals. There are a host of new faces this season too, with Sergi Darder, Naldo, Sergio García and former madridistas Granero and Mario Hermoso all coming in.
