Real Madrid legend Juanito passed away on this day 26 years ago
Real Madrid legend Juan Gomez Gonzalez, commonly known as a Juanito, died in a car accident on 2 April 1992.
At that time he was a Merida coach. His side was 7th in Segunda at the time of his death.
Juanito was returning home from Madrid where he watched his former team playing Torino in the UEFA Cup.
Juanito was just 37 when his life ended prematurely. Los Blancos fans have never forgotten their icon. They keep singing the famous chant, "Illa, illa, illa, Juanito maravilla" in the seventh minute of Real Madrid's every home match.
Juanito spent 10 years at Real Madrid between 1977 and 1988. He played 401 official matches, having scored 121 goals. During his time at the Bernabeu stadium, Juanito won UEFA Cup twice and LaLiga five times.
Rest in peace, legend! Forever in our hearts!
