Bristol Live: Chelsea loanee Kalas to join Bristol City permanently in 24 hours

As Bristol Live understands, Tomas Kalas will be officially announced a Bristol City player in 24 hours.

This will be the second Chelsea loanee to join the Robins permanently. Just yesterday, Jay Dasilva has been confirmed to leave the Blues.

The 26-year-old Czech international made 38 Championship appearances for the club, striking a formidable partnership with Adam Webster in central defence.

Kalas has bizarrely been the longest-serving player at Chelsea. He signed for Chelsea in 2010 and since then enjoyed loan spells at 6 clubs:

  • Sigma Olomouc - 2010/11
  • Vitesse - 2011-13
  • 1. FC Köln - 2014/15
  • 1. FC Köln II - 2014/15
  • Middlesbrough - 2015/16
  • Fulham - 2016–2018
  • Bristol City - 2018/19

There is no information about the fee Bristol will pay to Chelsea for the defender. However, as the media outlet claims, Kalas will become the highest-paid footballer at the club.

Such a payoff was necessary to beat other clubs interested in the player. According to several reports, Celtic, Rangers, Hull City and other Championship clubs were keen on signing the Czech.

No doubt, the Robins' manager Lee Johnson is happy to keep Kalas who has helped the club's progress:

"I think Tomas Kalas has been fantastic and I've enjoyed working with him and he has taken us to another level in terms of his quality," said Johnson.
