Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer said: "I was thinking 'Why on Earth is Raheem Sterling taking the ball off Cole Palmer?' Palmer's scored five out of five.
"What on Earth is going on there? Seriously, I was getting angry and I didn't really care. Palmer has been the best player for Chelsea.
"He looks confident when he's taking them. Why would you even contemplate taking it off him? Why would you put yourself forward when you have a record like that?"
Sterling insisted on taking a penalty over Palmer against Leicester City on Sunday, missing from the spot to contribute to his abysmal performance.
The incident generated controversy among Chelsea fans but the Blues still emerged as 4–2 winners to secure a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
