Fabio Carvalho reveals what Klopp told him after he impressed teammates in training

Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho struggled for opportunities under Jurgen Klopp last season until he decided to leave the club on loan, first to RB Leipzig and later to Hull City in January.

Carvalho reveals he tried so hard to impress Klopp in training and even mustered the courage to ask the legendary manager what was amiss.

“Yes, I spoke to him. Spoke to him not a lot, if I’m being honest with you,” Carvalho told the Echo.

“Maybe I should have done that, I have should have done that a bit more.

“But I did speak to him. He just said, ‘Be patient. You’re training well, your chance will come.’

“And I did think I was training well. To the point where some of the players were asking me, ‘What’s going on? Why are you not playing?’

“It is what it is kind of thing. But yeah, I did see him and he said, ‘Just be patient, keep training, and your chance will come.’ That’s all I could ask of him.

“He was honest with me, he gave me a few pointers on what I could do and what I could improve on, and I just tried to apply that in training,” Carvalho said.

The young Portuguese forward was gradually frozen out of the first team following Liverpool's 1-0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest last season. Former Red Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winner.

“I started that game, we didn’t really play that well,” Carvalho recalled.

"After that game, I just didn’t really have that many chances. Or if I did, it would be like five minutes, 10 minutes.”
