Barcelona Femeni clinched the 2023/24 Copa de le Reina title with an 8-0 battering of Real Sociedad women on Saturday (May 18).
But it seems like the Spanish Football Federation officials failed to show the proper level of respect for the Barca stars after the game.
As per Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish federation's officials didn’t even want to personally hang the winner’s medals onto the necks of the Barca Femeni players.
Instead, the players were given two handbags which contained all the medals. The senior players of the team had to hand out the medals to the individuals instead.
The Spanish federation is earning a lot of criticsm for this disrespectful act and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
Jose: “It is very difficult to be more embarrassing than the RFEF. I'm more of a Real Madrid fan than the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, but I hate it. There is no right for the president not to be in person presenting the medals. 675,000 € /year he charges.”
Rafael Hernandez: “Barcelona Women completely disrespected and disregarded by the Spanish Federation yet you don't see any outrage in Spain or abroad. Always the same..”
