Chelsea have already been linked with former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema who is currently plying his trade at Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
However, that claim was a well-informed speculation rather than a sure thing, considering Chelsea's need for a striker in the short term and Benzema's potential availability due to his openness to leaving Al Ittihad. Roberto Firmino, for example, was also a good fit for sucha description.
Now, The Guardian's Ed Aarons claims that Chelsea are indeed 'starting to show an interest' in the 36-year-old in particular.
Benzema's home club Lyon are also hoping to find a structure to sign Benzema. The biggest challenge, however, is to satisfy Al Ittihad's demands after a massive outlay on Benzema last summer.
As a club with much deeper pockets, Chelsea presumably have a better chance in this respect. However, it's not clear how tempted Benzema is by either option.
