The good and bad 'The Super League'
First off this is written by what we know so far, any outcome to happen to this league can change this blogs perspective.
Second, I'm a Madrid fan but this isn't about rivalries anymore! This is about the beautiful game we all want to see continued.
Well the football world is in complete chaos, with teams and managers speaking out on this and confronting the idea and this is what my prospective is on this so far.
The good.
Well the pretty obvious answer would be... Money, mainly the big teams who have been tremendously affected by the Pandemic and lost a big amount of money, Hence Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester united, Liverpool and more. These teams will benefit tremendously from then ESL (as a reported sum of 350+ million to be given)
Now, assuming that Florentino Perez was honest in his interview, the only thing that will be replaced is the UEFA Champions League with Domestic Leagues and cups to continue as usual.
By the interview it was said that teams Don't get enough from FIFA and UEFA To be willing to continue with them as their expenses are bigger than their income.
The winner if the UCL gets an amount of 120-150 Million and let's be honest THAT really isn't enough anymore! With stadium revenues and HUGE player fees and wages how can the amount of profit ever be enough to cover that? That is why for years the big teams were asking UEFA to change the UCL and add more money to the teams who progress further in these competitions. FIFA and UEFA have refused and that's when the idea of a SUPER LEAGUE began.
So more money, now what else? Perez said in his interview that there will be 15 teams to be permanently part of the super league + 5 different teams to be added and switched around every year.(still not clear how or when these teams can join)
So more game quality, bigger games and more income.
Now, Bad.
First off assuming all what Perez said is actually true, and assuming the teams and players don't get banned from other things, and assuming the owners and presidents will manage to agree with FIFA on this, Do we really want this?
About the 'bigger games', one of the things that make this game beautiful is not necessarily seeing your team play huge matches! It's also about the struggle against the smaller teams! The underdog! The Fight! The way you EARN your place in the competitions!
In a League like this not only will these games become a usual after a while (so it's not 'Big games' anymore!!) we will never have again the excitement of the unpredictability and the 'Anything is possible' feeling!
Leicester City winning the league in England was just amazing! Ajaxs INSANE run in the UCL! Roma! Monaco! And that's just in recent years! Also the amount of world class players who were discovered just from these types of games! Mbappe! De Jong! Mahrez! Halland! And many many more were found in teams that no one expected anything from them!!
With this Super League we won't have these things anymore! Always the top teams! No surprises! Where is the risk and beauty in the game?
And all this is assuming that it's just the Champions League that will be replaced! What if these Super League teams are banned from their Domestic Leagues? The cups? The players national teams? No world cup? No euros? WHERE DOSE IT END??
And assuming money is still the issue, surely there's a way to solve that! Ban certain transfer fees! Or player wages! Increase the rewards for certain wins!
The presidents and UEFA and FIFA should work TOGETHER to solve this issue! Not to throw around threats and animosity!
I really hope this issue is solved soon and we can all go back to enjoying the game we love.
Hope this helped,
#keepthegamealive 🙏

Proposed Solutions Yes Yes . Team compensation is the best way to go. A single player fees and wages in most clubs is unfair to the other players or team. Ronaldo, Messi, Nemayr alone cannot win matches but have astronomical ratings and wages. Why??? Bale eating up coffers of Real Madrid with no output. The most important part is the fees or commissions for AGENTS. Remove this completely from the equation and have a cap wages. Compensate players individual efforts per match according to the ratings etc
