Willian's stats are that of a fringe player - would you welcome him at Arsenal?
Chelsea's Willian is out of contract this summer and looks unlikely to renew with the club. The Brazilian has also expressed a desire to stay in London and this makes Arsenal a top destination under the circumstances.
So we went ahead and did what each fan does when a player is linked to their club (after watching the YouTube highlight reels) - looked at Willian's stats. And here they are.
- 329 appearances in all competitions.
- 59 goals and 59 assists across those games (go ahead and re-cast Willian as the lead actor in Equilibrium)
- 27 yellow cards and just one red.
His league stats look healthy if you look at appearances only (Willian made less than 30 only once in 7 seasons). However, a closer look tells us a different story: four times out of seven the Brazilian played under half of all minutes available.
Essentially, that makes him a fringe player, not a regular starter. Would it therefore be a good idea to bring him in, even on a free?
