On that day, five years ago, Stevie G said goodbye to Anfield
Steven Gerrard was a special player and May 16, 2015, was going to be a special day for our legendary captain. Sooner or later, every footballer has to say goodbye to his home arena and on that day, Steven had a farewell game at Anfield.
So, there was the moment when Stevie addressed the fans. Take a look at Stevie's final words: even today, five years after, it remains one of the most emotional moments in the entire history of Anfield.
(In case the video doesn't open, you can watch it here.)
"Just before I go, before the tears come... I've played in front of most supporters around the world but let me tell you, you are the best. Thank you very much, all the best" - you couldn't put it better, Stevie.
I'm a grown-up guy in my 40s and I'll be honest - this video nearly made me cry back then and even now it feels pretty much the same.
The match itself didn't go the way Liverpool players and fans wanted as we got beaten by Alan Pardew's Palace 1-3. Obviously, a different scoreline would make us all feel better but things like that do happen in football.
How did you feel when you saw Gerrard's farewell for the first time? And how do you feel when you are watching it today? Share your impressions and best memories of Stevie G in the comments!
