An Open letter to Sergio Romero
You joined this Club in the summer of 2015 linking up with your boyhood Manager Louis Van Gaal, knowing fully well you will be second fiddle to David De Gea or you probably thought of replacing him, when he eventually joins Madrid (which we are still waiting to happen) either ways the love of the club made you join and has kept you here till now.
Often used as our goalkeeper for domestic and European cups matches, the only few times I could remember you play in the league was the first few matches of the 2015 season, when De Gea was relegated to the bench due to the uncertainty concerning his transfer to Madrid. Whenever you play you give your 100, well known for punching the ball outfield, instead of trying to catch the ball in your congested goal area.
Till date I know one of your fondest moments on the red (oops! Did I say red?) shirt will be helping us win the Europa league trophy in 2017, a competition you were actively involved in and was also a special moment for the Club because it was our first time winning it.
However, no matter how interesting a story is, it must surely come to an end, likewise your time with us, and the two times you were benched in cup semi finals (matches we ended up losing) in the just concluded season goes to show that you are either not in the Manager's plan or he just doesn't trust you enough, either ways I think it's time for you to move on.
With the recent contract extension of Dean Henderson in a Club that already boasts of five first team goalkeepers this goes further to show that your time with us us up and you should be looking for somewhere else to do what you know how to do best. At just 33 years old, you are still in your prime as a goalkeeper, at least when compared to Gianluigi Buffon, 42 or Willy Caballero, 38. Without any doubt, you will add quality to any team you join whether within or outside England.
Finally, whatever decision you make always know that you will be remembered as the Keeper that won us the Europa league cup.
