Liverpool played out their first full game of pre-season and despite fielding quite the strong line-up in the first half, had to wait till the 85th minute to break the deadlock.
A number of players played well in the game but here's a look at the 6 players who stood out.
1st Half
Line-up: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Matip, Tsimikas, Milner, Keita, Elliott, Mane, Salah, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Naby Keita - 8.5/10
Beat 3 men in a sweeping move at one point, including a filthy nutmeg. Almost got an assist too. Keita needs to keep producing like this.
Kostas Tsimikas - 8/10
Another player that is starting to come into his own, recovered well and put in some good challenges to snuff out danger. Put in 1 good cross as well.
Ibrahima Konate - 7.5/10
Looked sluggish on the ball at times but showcased his sheer physical capabilities numerous times, out-muscling and out-sprinting his opponents.
2nd Half
Line-up: Adrian, N.Williams, Phillips, Koumetio, Beck, Clarkson, Gordon, Morton, Jones, Minamino, Origi
Kaide Gordon - 8/10
This youngster looks like the real deal. Had a goal disallowed but finished with great composure. Has the ability to make things happen and never stopped trying against Mainz.
Curtis Jones - 7.5/10
Jones managed to turn in another composed performance and now he feels like one of the seniors rather than the youngsters. Created space brilliantly on one occasion with his run but couldn't find the final ball.
Owen Beck - 7.5/10
Provided the cross that led to the Mainz own-goal that gave Liverpool a win. Was industrious down the left and got stuck in a couple of times. Solid, all-round display.
This was an excellent outing for the Reds to gain fitness, while a late victory ensures that the feeling stays good within the squad as well.
