Wuhan bans eating wild animals. Now can we ban the notion that football's just fun & doesn't matter?
What is widely believed to have caused covid-19 to go sashaying round the globe is now officially BANNED! The decree says that the new policy is in place for the next five years.
It's good news whether you believe that the coronavirus started at that Wuhan market or not. At least the gross practice will be ended.
This actually got me thinking what if football takes drastic measures and kicks one obnoxious thing out for good? Here I name it.
The perception that football is *just* entertainment
You may remember my rant about Danny Rose (he's given another similar interview since then – he now feels like a lab rat). Let me get it straight: football is entertainment. What I rebel against is this notion that entertainment doesn't matter.
How much time do you spend watching football? How much time does it take you to scroll Facebook while already in bed? How many game hours do you have in FIFA or Football Manager? What keeps you from being inert on a day-off...?
We live in the world of entertainment. We live in a world so demanding that we need at least a dose of escapism and football and all that surrounds it gives us this moment, these moments.
Let's stop laughing, let's stop sharing cat gifs, let's stop having sex because PEOPLE ARE DYING. They are dying 24/7 in droves, in case you haven't noticed.
I genuinely feel for those who died because of the virus. But if I start counting the number of people dead from nth other diseases, heck, I won't have a spare second in my day to feel for them all.
...
I'm perfectly honest, I'm missing my United players, but I'm also missing the presence of live football. This gives my life a greater meaning. Just watching those 22 men play and then discussing all week with my mates what we liked and what we didn't is fun and a pleasant distraction. Yes, it also boosts my morale.
This keeps us alive, this keeps us engaged and I believe it's safe enough for the world to start returning to this normal life.

Isn't it Wuhan? 👀
Good one. At this point, we all need some semblance of normalcy back in our lives and just move on
