- Joseph Minala was hit by a controversial scandal in 2014 when an African website claimed that the then 17-year-old midfielder was actually aged 42 at that time!
- Lazio and the player denied this claims and the Italian FA opened an investigation on the claims, only to later dispute it due to the lack of evidence.
- Minala’s career at Lazio was, however, was impacted by this as he spent the next few seasons with Italian lower divisions side Bari and Latina.
- He was then loaned to Serie B club Salernitana for the 2017/18 & 2018/19 season with an option to buy permanently, only to fail to impress there.
- Minala is currently on loan with Chinese Super League side Qingdao Huanghai and technically still on the books of Lazio.
- However, his contract with Lazio is set to expire next year, which could mark the end of the road of his association with the club.
