Reece James to captain Wigan in his farewell game

Chelsea loanee Reece James will lead out Wigan Athletic in his last appearance for the club, manager Paul Cook announced before the game against Millwall.

The 19-year-old has truly become a revelation at the Latics, grabbing all but one of the club's Player of the Month awards.

And as captain Sam Morsy will not feature in their last game of the season to avoid a three-match ban for the next campaign, Cook admitted there was not much choice as to who would take the armband from him.

"Reece will captain the team on Sunday, and that’s a fitting way to end his time here," Cook said.

"If everything goes according to plan we’ll probably bring him off in the latter stages to get the ovation he thoroughly deserves."

The versatile teenager is likely to remain at Chelsea for the next season, as he is seen as a natural back-up for our right-back, Cesar Azpilicueta.
