Ajax coach: 'There is zero chance that De Ligt will continue'

Ajax coach Erik ten Hag confirms during the press conference that it would be impossible to keep hold of Barcelona transfer target, Matthijs de Ligt. However, the boss is unable to name the exact side who is going to sign the centre-back. No wonder that the 19-year-old is wanted by literally every European top club.

Suddeutsche Zeitung quote Ten Hag as saying: "There is zero chance that De Ligt will continue at Ajax. There are too many clubs interested in him. He will leave us this summer, but I don't know if he will go to Bayern or Barcelona."

He also hails De Ligt's progress: "Our team plays with courage and creativity, partly because De Ligt is our captain. He has a lot of courage. Most of the Dutch players play with the ball at their feet, but he loves the art of defending. That is something new here."

Against Juventus, De Ligt became the youngest captain ever to start in a Champions League quarterfinals. The 19-year-old completed the full 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw against the Bianconeri. The centre-back completed 85,5% of his passes, attempted one shot and won three aerial duels.

According to the recent report from Barcelona-based publication Diario Sport, Barca have offered around 60 million euros plus variables for De Ligt. The player has been offered a five-year contract on similar terms to the one of his team-mate Frenkie de Jong.
