Biggest defeat to Real Madrid, re-branded club logo: How pro-Madrid Franco was trying to destroy Barcelona
  • Barcelona were made to remove the Catalan flag from their badge as Franco oppressed people living in Catalunya and the Basque Country, pushing for the homogenous Spanish state.
  • Back in 1943, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 11-1 in the second leg of the Copa del Rey (previously known as Copa del Generalisimo). The biggest-ever defeat was reportedly induced by the government forces - Barcelona players were reportedly threatened by police ahead of the game.
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs under Franco had also been putting Blancos ahead of Barcelona: "Real Madrid is a style of sportsmanship," said the minister. "It is the best embassy we have ever had."
  • Franco, however, tried to make friends with some representatives of the club. "Bernabeu was his natural home but his political instinct took him on occasions to Les Corts, and later to the Camp Nou," explains  Jimmy Burns, one of the researchers of Franco's life.
