De Jong wins domestic double with Ajax before joining Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong is doing great recently. Despite the last-minute Champions League elimination at the hands of Tottenham, the 22-year-old has finished the 2018/2019 campaign with a domestic double and rightfully earned Barcelona move.

Ajax has just become the Eredivisie champions as they beat De Graafschap 4-1 away. However, the title race was over last weekend as their major rival, PSV, suddenly succumbed to a narrow defeat to  AZ Alkmaar. For Ajax, this win is 34th in total and first in the last five years.

Apart from Eredivisie win, Ajax have also snatched the local cup. They beat Willem II 4-0 on May 5.

Future Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong has been an important cog in the Ajax machine. He has featured in 51 official games for the clubs in all competitions, scored four goals and didn't pick up a single yellow in the local league.

Look at De Jong's contribution into the Eredivisie win, as per Transfermarkt:

Another Barcelona-bound Ajax star, Matthijs de Ligt, has had an impressive campaign as well. So far this season, he has made 54 official appearances in all competitions and scored seven goals, including two unforgettable stunners in the Champions League knock-out stages. He is expected to announce his future plans any time soon.

Look at De Ligt's Eredivisie figures, as per the same source:

De Jong will join Barcelona this summer as his €75million transfer was sealed in January. It remains to be seen whether De Ligt follows his teammate, however, various sources claim the deal has been agreed for already a month.
